About Fronlwyd Escapes

A place shaped by travel, nature and a shared idea

Fronlwyd Escapes began with a simple hope: to create a peaceful countryside place where people could stay, slow down and enjoy being surrounded by nature.

Our story

From New Zealand to Mid Wales

We had known each other before we both found ourselves travelling in New Zealand. It was there we got together, and looked after a backpackers in Wanaka and realised we shared the same idea for the future.

One day, we wanted to create a place of our own where people could escape everyday life, feel welcome and spend time surrounded by nature.

After returning to the UK, we lived and worked in Bristol. When we saw Fronlwyd, we recognised the opportunity to create the countryside life and welcoming place we had imagined together.

Fronlwyd today

Two very different places to stay

Over time, Fronlwyd has become home to two distinct stays. The Longhouse gives families and friends the space to gather together, while Beneath the Stars offers a peaceful dome escape for two.

Both stays are part of the same place, surrounded by the landscape, wildlife and dark skies that first drew us to Mid Wales.

A home for nature

We don't tidy the life out of it

We love welcoming guests to Fronlwyd, but we also want it to remain a place where wildlife can thrive.

Rather than keeping every corner closely cut and manicured, we allow parts of the land to grow naturally. Fallen wood can become habitat, wild areas support insects and pollinators, and the changing seasons are allowed to shape the landscape.

Red kites, owls, woodpeckers, bats, foxes, hares and many smaller visitors all share this place with us.

We believe the countryside is at its best when it is full of life.

Life beyond hosting

Meet your hosts

Fronlwyd is our home as well as somewhere we share with guests. We live and work here, alongside ordinary family life, and enjoy welcoming people to experience this corner of Mid Wales.

Adam

Adam works remotely as a Project Manager from Fronlwyd and is usually the person behind the practical jobs, maintenance projects and improvements that keep everything running smoothly.

Vicky

Vicky founded Newtown Food Surplus, helping rescue good food for local communities. At Fronlwyd she enjoys creating welcoming places for guests while helping protect the wildlife and countryside that make this place special.

A warm welcome

We'd love to welcome you

Whether you're gathering family together in the Longhouse or escaping beneath the stars for a few peaceful days, we hope you leave with your own favourite memories of Mid Wales.
