Aber Adventures runs surf lessons around Borth and Ynyslas, with paddleboard sessions at Borth or Llyn Pendam and kayak hire at Borth. Our own son has surfed with them and we think they are brilliant: friendly, encouraging and very good at helping people feel confident in the water.

Try the waves with people we genuinely recommend, hire a bike in Machynlleth, tackle one of the Dyfi's mountain bike trails, watch aircraft in the Mach Loop or plan a white water day near Bala. You can go all in, learn something new or simply enjoy watching the action before returning to the peace of Fronlwyd.

Hire a bike for an easier day around Machynlleth or bring the right equipment and take on one of the area's purpose built mountain bike experiences.

Seiclo Dyfi is a community bike shop offering standard bikes, e-bikes, mountain bikes and electric mountain bikes for hire. It is a useful option if you would like to explore without bringing your own bike.
Please note: its mountain bikes and electric mountain bikes are for off road exploring, but are not suitable or permitted for use at uplift bike parks.

Dyfi Bike Park has uplift served trails for capable mountain bikers, with coaching available and routes graded from red through to expert level. It is an impressive place, but one to book and prepare for properly.
Important: check the current grading, equipment and booking requirements directly with the park before visiting.

For riders who prefer to earn their descents, ClimachX is a waymarked forest route at Ceinws, best known for its long final descent and a very different experience from the uplift park.
Forestry work can affect routes, so check the official access information before setting out.

A remarkable Mid Wales experience
Fronlwyd lies among valleys used for military low-flying training. Aircraft sometimes pass above and around the property, turning an ordinary moment outdoors into one guests remember long after their stay.
Some visitors arrive with cameras and plans for the recognised hillside viewpoints. Others first discover the Loop when an aircraft unexpectedly crosses the valley.
The Mach Loop is a working training area rather than a scheduled attraction, so activity varies and completely quiet days are normal.

If surfing at the coast has given you a taste for adventure, the National White Water Centre offers a very different day on the River Tryweryn.
Near Bala
The National White Water Centre runs rafting adventures on the natural rapids of the River Tryweryn, together with canyoning and other coached activities. It is farther from Fronlwyd, so allow a full day and book ahead.
