Clouds are part of Welsh weather and no clear sky can be promised. But when the clouds part at Fronlwyd, the darkness can be astonishing.

Fronlwyd sits beneath an estimated Bortle Class 3 sky, with a mapped sky-quality figure of around 21.86 mag/arcsec². For guests, that simply means very little artificial glow and far more stars than most people see at home.
For keen stargazers, these figures point to a rural sky capable of revealing far fainter detail when conditions are clear.
These are modelled light-pollution readings rather than a promise of nightly conditions. Moonlight, cloud, haze and local lights all affect what can be seen.

The viewing point at Y Star Inn is an officially recognised Dark Sky Discovery Site. Its mountain setting and open outlook make it memorable on a clear night. If you want to eat first, check the inn’s current opening times and reserve a table before travelling.
