Pick up vegan friendly picnic supplies in Machynlleth, lace up your boots and take on one of Wales’s most magnificent mountains.

Our family has made this beautiful drive many times. The Eating Gorilla is a North Wales vegan institution for breakfast, lunch and cake.

Red kites, wetlands & big skies

For a quieter day, visit RSPB Ynys-hir or Cors Dyfi’s wildlife centre and osprey project. Back at Fronlwyd, watch for red kites, bats and owls.

Make a day of it: stock up first in Machynlleth, take binoculars and let the wildlife set the pace.

A very important local

You might meet Barry

Barry began life advertised as a micro pig. A Manchester house, back garden, allotment and several later homes followed. He became very good at escaping and twice came frighteningly close to being slaughtered.

Then Barry came to Fronlwyd for the rest of his days. He now has woodland, wallows, favourite places to flop and a comfortable pen. He is enormously friendly and meets guests on his terms.

Brassicas are an insult and carrots are deeply unimpressive. Arrive with apples, melon or tropical fruit and you are his mate for life.

Also in the Fronlwyd family: Holly, our rescued sheepdog cross, and Anita, who came home to Wales after Vicky met her during humanitarian work near the border between Ukraine and Poland.
